British War Medal 1914-20 (797 C-S-M. D. C. Edgar, 5 Cal. Bn. I.D.F.); Defence Medal 1939-45, these two mounted as a pair; Volunteer Force Long Service (India & the Colonies), G.V.R. (Coy-S. Maj. D. C. Edgar. Cal. Bn. A.F.I.), mounted as worn, good very fine

David Campbell Edgar was born on 3 April 1880 at Culbrae Farm, Wigtown, Scotland and trained as an Engineer. He first went out to India in November 1903 but by 1911 was living at 49 Agate Road, Hammersmith. Upon the outbreak of the Great War he served as a Company Sergeant-Major in the 5th (Calcutta) Battalion and would have been present for the presentation of Colours by the Viceroy in 1917; an act that was captured on film via:

Having been married at Bombay in November 1920, he returned to Scotland in 1924 and intended to live at Mount Pleasant, Port William. Returning to the fold during the Second World War, he died at Port William on 2 March 1956.
