George Walter Yates was born at Norton, Yorkshire in 1887, the son of George and Fanny Yates of Malton, Yorkshire. He enlisted with the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry at Harrogate and entered the Great War after 1916. Yates was killed in action on 22 October 1917, when the Battalion was engaged during the Battle of Passchendaele. Yates is commemorated upon the Tyne Cot Memorial; sold together with handwritten research.
