Albert Butt was serving with the 2nd Battalion, East Surrey Regiment when the Great War began and entered the war on 23 February 1915. He suffered a gunshot wound in the chest the next month on 3 March and was appointed Lance Corporal just two days later. Embarking for Salonica on 23 October for he served there until December 1918 when he caught Malaria and was sent to 64th General Hospital. Butt was demobilised on 21 April 1919; sold together with copied research.
