Henry Thomas Chilcott was born on 17 December 1894 at Chatham and joined the Royal School of Music as a Boy on 10 March 1910. He spent two years with Africa before being posted to St Vincent, joining Colossus on 24 October 1915 and served aboard her at the Battle of Jutland.

Colossus joined the 2nd Division of the Home Fleet and the 2nd Battle Squadron between May-December 1912 and in August 1914 she became Flagship to the 1st Battle Squadron. She fought at the Battle of Jutland under the command of Admiral Jellicoe, being the only ship under his command to be damaged by two hits, with five crew casualties.

During the battle she fired a total of 93 twelve-inch shells and 16 shells from her four-inch guns. Chilcott was discharged on 16 December 1924; sold together with copied service papers.
