1914-15 Star (Lieut. R. W. Cotesworth, R.N.); British War and Victory Medal (Lieut. R. W. B. Cotesworth. R.N.), mounted as worn, light verdigris to the first, otherwise good very fine (3)

Ralph William Badeley Cotesworth was born on 14 January 1888 at Aston Cautlow, Warwickshire. He was sent to Britannia on 15 May 1903, promoted to Midshipman 15 October 1904; Sub-Lieutenant 8 September 1908; Lieutenant 15 June 1910; Served on Endeavour from 5 November 1914 to May 1915. He contracted Tuberculosis and as a result of being physically unfit was placed on the Retired List on 27 August 1915. Promoted Lieutenant Commander 15 June 1918. He appears to have been with the Foreign office and his service papers note "granted retrospective permission to accept appt in Foreign Office as from 19 November 1918". Retired Commander 14 January 1928. He saw service in the Second World War from 20 November 1944 inside the Admiralty as Naval Assistant to the Deputy First Sea Lord. He was dispersed on 9 October 1945 and released on 4 December 1945 and reverted to the retired list on 5 December 1945.
