James Albert Baker was born at Clagford, Devon on 2 March 1885 and enlisted on 2 March 1903. Seeing service with a number of vessels prior to the Great War including Donegal, Implacable and Indefectible. Still in service on the outbreak of the Great War he was posted to Leander for destroyer Thorn with the 7th Flotilla. Still with her in August 1916 he was promoted Leading Stoker, just prior to the vessel’s re-deployment to Londonderry, Ireland. Baker was demobilised on 8 March 1919; sold together with copied research.
