William Watts was born at St. Johns, Leeds in 1833 and attested at Hull on 4 May 1852 with the service number 2999 having previously been a groom. He was to serve almost eight of his ten years with the Regiment abroad, first at Malta but later joining the British Army in the Crimea where his service records confirm he earned four clasps to his medal. Later Watts was posted to the West Indies where he was to serve for a little over two years. He was discharged on 24 June 1862; sold together with copied service papers.
