A 'Battle of the Somme 1916' M.M. group of three awarded to Private M. Bennett, 11th Battalion, Liverpool Regiment who was later killed in action near Arras on 21 July 1917

Michael Bennett was born and enlisted in Liverpool before seeing service on the Western Front from 19 May 1915. Bennett was awarded the Military Medal in a gazette which covered awards for the Battle of the Somme in which Bennett's battalion fought at Delville Wood and Flers-Courcelette. He would go on to be killed in action during the fighting near Kemmel on 21 July 1917 aged 19, one of four men killed and one wounded in the battalion on that date. He was the son of Thomas and Ann Bennett of 158 Burlington Street, Liverpool, he is remembered on the Arras Memorial.
