W. J. Fowler, of Hounslow in Middlesex, is confirmed as serving in France & Flanders from 15 August 1914 with the 2nd Dragoon Guards (Queen's Bays). This regiment formed part of the 1st Cavalry Brigade in the 1st Cavalry Division of the British Expeditionary Force (B.E.F.) and participated in many early and hard-fought engagements of the Great War including the Retreat from Mons, the Battle of Le Cateau, the Battle of Messines and the First Battle of Ypres.
