(x) A Battle of Kohima 1944 casualty's group of four to Lance Corporal T. Lumley, Royal Corps of Signals, who was killed in action on 18 April 1944

1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Burma Star; War Medal 1939-45, sold together with a named slip of issue, good very fine (4)

Thomas Lumley was born at Durham in 1921, the son of Thomas and Phyllis Lumley of Carr Hill, Gateshead, Durham. Enlisting with the Royal Signals Lumley was appointed Lance-Corporal and was serving with the 33rd Indian Corps Signals at the Battle of Kohima. He was listed as 'Missing believed Wounded' on 18 April 1944 and later confirmed 'now reported Killed in Action' on 15 May. The date he went missing coincides with the first relief of the Kohima position, when the 1st Punjab Regiment linked up with the garrison. He is buried at the Kohmia War Cemetry, it is worth noting that Commonwealth War Graves lists his date of death as 15 May, the day his death was confirmed rather than the day he went missing; sold together with copied research including casualty lists.
