Valentine John McLeroth was born on 14 March 1910 and was drafted to H.M.S. Afrikandea I on 31 July 1940 and was posted to Royal Sovereign on 19 October 1940. The Battleship had just left the Mediterranean for convoy duties in the Atlantic and he was to serve with her in this field. McLeroth does not appear to have followed her into the Pacific theatre, later seconded to the Royal Navy on 19 November 1945 he was finally demobilised on 23 November; sold together with copied service papers.
