Oswald Bennett Boettcher was born at Glen Osmand, South Australia, joining the 2nd Depot Battalion, A.I.F. on 11 April 1916. Posted to the 5th Divisional Signal Company on 16 July 1916 he disembarked at Plymouth, England on 14 November 1916. Later posted to France Boettcher was transferred to the 3rd Divisional Signal Company on 9 September 1917. He was injured during a gas attack on 24 April 1918 being taken to No. 20 Casualty Clearing Station and later No. 1 Canadian General Hospital. Returning to Australia on 17 July 1919.

Percy Sille later served with the Royal Engineers (Transport) with the service number 697.
