William Calder Seeley was born at Red Hill, Barton, Ontario on 6 July 1894 and was a gardener by trade upon his enlistment in May 1916. He was twice wounded in action, being severely wounded in the face by gunshot on 11 November 1917, being admitted to No. 44 Casualty Clearing Station (also suffering shell shock) and thence on 16 October 1918 by a gunshot wound to the left leg and arm. He was discharged medically unfit in March 1919.
