John Tallintire was born in 1895, at Glasgow, Lanarkshire, the son of James and Annie Tallintire of 49 Garngad Avenue, Glasgow Townhead. Enlisting on 10 December 1915 with 1st/6th (Renfrewshire) Battalion, Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, entering the war at some stage after 1916.
This unit served in France with the 154th Brigade, part of the 51st Highland Division, which saw action at the Somme, Arras and Cambrai. The Battalion briefly saw action in Italy before being returned to France in November 1917, where they rounded out the war. At some stage Tallintire was given a new service number, 285104 which he was to use for the rest of the war.
Tallintire was awarded the Military Medal in August 1918, likely for actions during the German Spring Offensive the previous spring. Despite this accolade he continued to serve and appears upon a casualty list published in December 1918, suggesting he was wounded in the final months of the war.
Being demobilised on 14 July 1919 at the Perth Depot he returned to Glasgow being listed living at Firback Street with his three children and wife Elizabeth in 1958. Tallintire died at Glasgow in 1984; sold together with copied research comprising transcribed pension records, M.I.C. and silver war badge roll as well as medal rolls and M.M. index card as well as newspaper and newsletter entries from The Scotsman and the Weekly Casualty List.
