Frederick Tom Dunstall, a native of Tonbridge, Kent was born in January 1873 and was a stockbrokers clerk when he enlisted in the 4th Battalion, The Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment on 7 November 1890.
Mobilised with the 2/4th Battalion during the Great War, they proceeded to Gallipoli where they landed at West Beach, Suvla on 10 August 1915. Three days later the Battalion was in the front trenches, a trying experience for a raw Battalion, newly landed after a 3-week voyage. The period spent by the Battalion at Suvla was one of monotonous hardships, though shelled from time to time and constantly under rifle fire, it had no opportunity to distinguish itself either in attack or defence. It was during this time that Dunstall was wounded by shrapnel on 5 September 1915. Towards the end of 1915 the Battalion left Gallipoli. The Battalion later served in Egypt and Palestine.
Dunstall transferred to the Machine Gun Corps in July 1916 and served with the Egyptian Expeditionary Force where he was 'mentioned', being discharged on 16 March 1919. He died in Tonbridge in March 1955; sold together with a good bound file of research.
