Sidney James Claxton was born at Earlsfield and enlisted at St. Paul's Churchyard, London. He entered the war in France from 3 May 1915 and was killed in action on 11 August 1917, serving with the 11th Battalion and is commemorated on the Menin Gate.

The medals were applied for in 1923.
