John Deakin was a mine loader from Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire who enlisted in the 2nd Battalion, East Yorkshire Regiment on 6 August 1914. He was discharged on 1 February 1919; sold together with copied research, damaged boxes of issue for Medals, Army Pay book, Certificate of Discharge and Demobilisation Certificate.
John Thomas Deakin, a native of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, was born on 29 June 1919, the son of John Deakin. Educated at Hartshill North School he was employed as a driver for Mr E. R. Archer, a furniture remover in Nuneaton prior to the war. He enlisted in October 1939 and given his pre-war occupation he joined the Royal Army Service Corps. Taken a Prisoner of War at St Valerie, he was interned at Stalag XXB, Willenberg, Marienburg, Poland for the duration where he was employed as a tractor driver on a local farm; sold together with the box of issue for his medals and a good quantity of original documents including his certificate of attestation, two post cards to his parents when he was interned at Stalag XXB, various newspaper clippings and some copied research.
