A 'First Day of the Somme Killed in Action' group of three to Private W. Hindry, Norfolk Regiment, a native of Norwich and one of two brothers who both served with the 8th Battalion Norfolk Regiment and who both were killed on the First Day of the Battle of the Somme

William Hindry was born and enlisted at Norwich, he entered the war in France on 25 July 1915 and was killed in action on 1 July 1916 whilst serving with the 8th Bn, they attacked the German trenches North of Carnoy and South West of Mountauban. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. He was the son of George and Margaret Hindry, of 31, Ashby St., Queens Rd., Norwich.

His brother Charles Hindry also served in the Norfolk Regiment going overseas on exactly the same day and was also killed on 1 July 1916 with 8th Bn, he is buried in the Dantzig Alley British Cemetery, Mametz.
