General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Kurdistan (345029. L.A.C. G. S. Moores. R.A.F.), very fine
George Stanley Moores was born on 14 October 1889 at Widnes, Warrington: serving in the Royal Engineers between May 1905 - 26 September 1919 he was discharged with the rank of Corporal. He then worked as an Engine Driver with Messrs Burnells & Co. of Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.
Clearly keen to see further military service, Moores joined the Royal Air Force on 15 January 1921 at the R.A.F. Depot in Uxbridge and was swiftly promoted to A.C.1 six months later. Posted to Iraq on 28 August 1922, he was promoted Corporal in January 1924 and on 1 April 1925 was posted to Basra Group H.Q. Transferred to the Reserve on 18 December 1926, he was finally discharged on 14 January 1933. Moores resided at 70 Wellington Road, Ellesemere Port, Cheshire, and is further entitled to a 1914-15 Star and British War and Victory Medals for his Great War service.
