William Henry Brown a native of Kingston on Thames enlisted with the Royal Engineers on 20 January 1915 and entered the war in France with the 81st Field Company, Royal Engineers on 18 July 1915. Promoted Corporal in France on 14 November 1915 he received a shrapnel wound to the right leg on 4 September 1916, just two months before being awarded the M.M. Brown was later to add to this with a ‘mention’ on 4 January 1917; sold together with two photographs one of the recipient and one of his sister, a postcard from the recipient’s sister to him, two postcards from the recipient to his mother along with a forwarding slip for the M.I.D. emblem as well as copied research including London Gazette extracts, M.I.C. and M.M. cards.
