King's South Africa 1901-02, 2 clasps, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (3260 Pte H. Berry. 6th Drgn: Gds:), edge bruise, contact mark, minor polishing, very fine overall
Harry Berry was born at Huddersfield, Yorkshire in 1872 and enlisted on 5 February 1894 with the 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers). Posted to South Africa for Service in the Boer War he arrived on 3 November 1899. Berry joined General French's advance to relieve Kimberly.
He was present at Kameeldrift just prior to the Battle of Diamond Hill when British cavalry were skirmishing with Boer Commandos. Here he was taken prisoner of war on 3 June 1900, remaining in Boer hands until 5 September that same year.
Leaving South Africa on 30 July 1902 Berry was discharged on 9 September after several months of Home Service. Despite this he signed on to the Army Reserve and continued with them until 5 May 1913; sold together with copied research comprising former auction listings, medal rolls and gazette extracts.
