Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Delhi (Lieut W T Somerville Bengal Arty.), suspension missing claws to the obverse and re-glued, with edge bruising and contact marks throughout, nearly very fine
William Thomson Somerville was born in 1836, the son of Dr James Craig Somerville MD. Serving with the Bengal Artillery during the Indian Mutiny, he died of fatigue and exposure in camp before the city of Delhi on 5 September 1857.
A memorial to his memory exists inside the church of St. James the Less, Pangbourne, Berkshire, and his father is interred in the same churchyard.
