(x) Royal Fleet Reserve L.S. & G.C., G.V.R. (229329 [P.O.B.8265] W. T. Vallance. A.B. R.F.R.), good very fine
William Turner Vallance was born at Mansfield, Nottinghamshire on 15 January 1887 and enlisted with the Royal Navy on 20 January 1904 as a Boy Class II. His first service afloat was with the corvette Cleopatra before coming of age with the armoured cruiser Sutlej and being appointed Ordinary Seaman on 15 January 1905. Vallance saw service with a number of ships and shore establishments before the war including Excellent, Sapphire and New Zealand; he was posted to the battleship Zealandia in 1 December 1911. Still with this warship on the outbreak of war, he saw service in the Dardanelles with her (1914-15 Star and British War and Victory Medals), later being posted ashore to Victory I. His final posting of the war was the battleship H.M.S. Monarch on 14 November 1917. With the close of hostilities Vallance was sent to H.M.S. Dolphin on 2 January 1919, serving briefly here he was demobilised the following month on 12 February, joining the Royal Fleet Reserve the next day. Earning his L.S. & G.C. on 2 March 1922 he died on 30 November 1969; sold together with copied service papers.
