Royal Navy L.S. & G.C., G.V.R. (K.56853 H. E. Eakins. S.P.O. H.M.S. Wren.), edge bruise, very fine

Henry Edward Eakins was born at Leyton on 26 December 1901 and was a turners improver upon his joining the Royal Navy on 14 May 1919. Awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in 1935, he was lucky to be removed from the Repulse on 4 February 1941, for she was to be sunk in the Far East in the famous action with the Prince of Wales on 10 December 1941. Eakins joined Columbine in April 1941 and was finally released on 12 October 1945.
