France and Germany Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45; General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Malaya (Flt. Lt. P. J. Probyn. R.A.F.); Coronation 1953, mounted as worn, light contact marks to the fourth, very fine (5)

Philip John Probyn was born on 23 January 1924 and served with the Equipment Branch of the Royal Air Force. He was commissioned on 6 September 1947 and advanced Pilot Officer on 20 December 1948. Further promoted Flight Lieutenant on 6 March 1952 and Wing Commander on 1 January 1967. Probyn achieved his final rank of Group Captain on 1 January 1971, later serving as Station Commander at R.A.F. Stafford which he left on 8 March 1974. Finally retiring in 1978 he died on 14 October 2015; sold together with an original archive comprising:

i)
Uniform riband bar.

ii)
Epaulettes with rank of Group Captain as worn on greatcoat or mess dress, with a further epaulette for battledress or shirt.

iii)
a decanter label in silver engraved 'Group Captain P. J. Probyn Royal Air Force 1940-1978'.

iii)
Buttons and an EIIR cypher.

iv)
Framed photograph of R.A.F. Staff College No.51 Staff Course, 9th January 1962 to 16th December 1961.
