Fred Howarth lived at Coomassie Street, Haywood, Lancashire and served in the Great War with the Lancashire Fusiliers. He went on to work as a postman and was awarded the Post Office Engineering Union's Gold badge; sold together with several newspaper articles relating to the award of the gold badge, a safe driving medal dated 1939 and a Borough of Kendall medal named to 'Edwin Sproat'.
