Walter Thomas Roberts was born in Paddington, London, and was a Clerk upon his enlistment in the British Army in August 1914. He served in France from 19 September 1915, in Salonika from 1915-18, and also on hospital ships (including the Grantully Castle) from late-1918 until early 1919.
