Edward Holloway was born on 17 May 1897 and was a miner upon his enlistment on 9 August 1915. He was drafted to the Nelson Battalion on 5 December 1915 and embarked Ionian at Mudros on 16 May 1916 and disembarked at Marseilles on the 22 May 1916. Thence serving on the Western Front, he was posted 'Missing in Action' on 13 November 1916 but this was latterly updated to his being killed in action. Holloway is buried in the Ancre British Cemetery, Beaumont-Hamel and was the son of Mrs E. Burton of 1 Dunscombe Cresecent, Shield Row, Stanley, Durham.
