John Roger Williams was born on 26 September 1874. He gained his Master's Certificate in 1898 and was promoted to Sub-Lieutenant on 15 January 1894, being was promoted Lieutenant-Commander on 21 August 1917. He was Master of Royal Fleet Auxiliaries of over 4,000 gross tons from 1904-18 and commanded the hired trawler Minoru II from 17 October-5 December 1918. Awarded a Royal Naval Reserve Decoration in 1920, Williams was demobilised on 7 September 1920 and placed on the retired list with the rank of Commander. He died on 13 August 1960; sold together with corresponding miniatures which comprise a 1914-15 Star Trio with Mercantile Marine War Medal and R.N.R. Decoration, box of issue for the 1914-15 Star and cap Badge.
