(x) Canada General Service 1866-70, 1 clasp, Fenian Raid 1866 (187 Pte. Wm. Harper Rifle Bde.), impressed naming, the 'P' of the surname officially re-impressed, contact marks, slight edge wear, very fine

Note, confirmed on the roll as applying for his medals through the Royal Hospital Chelsea on 10 July 1907.

William Harper was born at Shaw, Newbury in 1838 and enlisted on 11 November 1857 with the 4th Battalion, Rifle Brigade. Seeing his first active service in the Mediterranean, Harper was there for almost twelve years. Later posted to Canada he was present here during the Fenian Raids and was part of the British response to them. Sent to India he was to form part of the Jowaki Expedition in 1877 (Medal and Clasp), Harper was promoted Corporal on 22 November of that same year. He was finally discharged at Peshwar on 11 January 1879 and became a Chelsea Pensioner, dying at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea on 4 February 1921; sold together with a copied medal roll and typed research.
