Post-Medieval Period (c. 1550-1725), 'The Burton Agnes Ring', Gold Poesy, BE × TRV × TIL × DEATHE × AND × SO | SHAL × I, wide band, outer surface bears moulded decoration comprising five rectangular panels of curvilinear scrollwork and one square panel with comma-like scrollwork, interior surface inscribed with motto in Roman text, each word separated by saltire stops, vine-like scroll design present after the last word of inscription, diameter 20.9mm, width 6.3mm, thickness 1.4mm, 5.24g, ring size approx. M-N, (construction and decoration of this ring recalls GLO-55A844 and IOW-5EFAB8 on the PAS database), circular but slightly distorted with a D-shaped section, a beautiful example of a posy ring from this time period, wholesome and complete

Oman suggests in British Rings 800-1914 (1974), that the use of Roman capitals was the most common font style until the 1650s onwards when italic inscriptions became a more popular choice.
