September 1643, Exeter, (under Sir Richard Vyvyan) (m.m.) : [CARO]LVS ; D ; G ; MAG ; B[RI ; F]RA ; ET ; HI ; REX, armoured King on horseback left, sash in bow behind, rev. (m.m.) : CHRISTO ; AVSPICE ; REGNO : oval shield with twelve even 'barrel' garnished scrolls, 29.09g, 10h, m.m. rose (LAL Gp IIIa; Besly B2; Brooker 1010 same dies; North 2553; Spink 3056), usual irregular planchet and variable striking pressure to peripheries, otherwise toned, a bolder fine or marginally better for issue, the variety very rare and probably dating to the relocation of the Mint from Truro to Exeter in September 1643
