12th Century, Angevinian and Plantagenets, Silver Pennies (4), including: Henry I 'Beauclerc' (1100-1135), 'Quadrilateral on Cross Fleury' Type, Pennies, London (2), Ælfwine [?], + hE[NRIC]VS:, crowned and draped bust three-quarters facing, rev. + A[....]WIN ON [L]VN, quadrilateral on cross fleury, 1.41g, 8h; another, similar but heavily double-struck and rotated in the die, 1.32g, 5h (North 871; BMC XV; Spink 1276); additionally Stephen 'of Blois' (1135-1154), 'Watford' Type, Penny, 1135-1140, York, Leysingr, [+ STIEF]NE : crowned bust right, lys-tipped sceptre in right hand, rev. [+ LAIS]ING : ON [: ERPI], cross moline with a fleur in each angle, 1.08g, 4h (North 875; BMC I; Spink 1278); lastly, Henry II (1154-1189), 'Tealby' Type, Carlisle, Willelm, crowned bust C three-quarters facing, sceptre across shoulder, rev. [+ WI]LL[AM :] O[N :] CAR: cross potent, cross pattee in angles, 1.35g, 12h (EMC 1300.0177 same obverse die; North 956/957; Spink 1339), usual peripheral striking softnesses for these notorious issues, otherwise all darkly cabinet toned with good central details, a fine Angevinian-Plantagenet academic group!
