Spink has an illustrious history of producing medals, dating back to the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887. In the 1890s, Spink purchased the Soho Medal premises of A D Lowenstark and began producing Military, Wedding and Jubilee Medals under Royal Patronage, as well as specific commemoratives for the 1902, 1911, 1936 and 1953 Coronations. All are highly prized today, particularly the last two, as no official medals were produced for the crowning of King Edward VIII (for obvious reasons) or the late Queen Elizabeth II, in favour of the familiar 'Horseback' cupro-nickel Crown.
