A Victorian arched top Country House Post Box in coromandel wood (42.5 x 26.75cm.), with Leuchars & Son. 38-39 Piccadilly timepiece.
On a splayed plinth, with the shuttered posting slot, engraved LETTERS, with lock and key, the interior in luxurious satinwood or fruitwood which is impressed with a diamond stamp, identifying the date of the box.
Sold together with a letter, franked 1864-79 1d. Plate 197 (perfin.) dated 1878 (Feb.) from Chapman, Son & Co., Gold Medal ""Cabinet & Leather Goods manufctory", advertising three examples of the "Registered Clock Letter Box", the most expensive being made in Coromandel wood, as herewith.
