1901 (13 July) stampless Thorp letter to Macclesfield with manuscript, "On Active Service no stamps available" with large "T" in circle, boxed "postage due/ annas" and "2d/fb/b" applied in London, the reverse with Berbera, Aden (29.7) and Macclesfield (5.8) c.d.s. With the original letter to his mother headed "Bohotle, Somaliland; Monday night 8 July 1901" and includes, "... we are now in Zareba at Bohotle where we were from 20 to 24 June. We left Kourmis on 6th July ... I had a lot of hard marching while at Kourmis, after karias & we captured a lot of camels - about 4000 ...". An important correspondence. Photo
