Auction: 23009 - World Banknotes
Lot: 292
Mauritius Commercial Bank, Front Proof 25 Silver Rupees, ND (1838-40), featuring a Batho & Bingley, London handstamp. This banknote stands out due to its distinctive deviations from the notes that were synchronously available, presenting a wholly unique appearance. It is a specimen note from the Mauritius Commercial Bank, a 25 silver rupee note, featuring a currently unlisted design. Despite this, it shares a common waterfront scene with Picks S122, S126, and S127. It also duplicates the decorative element encompassing the denomination of '20' on the S125 banknote. What sets this particular specimen apart is its angular composition and typography, resembling the later Oriental Bank Corporation notes, whereas other designs by the Commercial Bank feature curved typesetting. Altogether an interesting and unique banknote
