Provenance

From the Augusta Collection of European Gold Coins

Presumably struck in the 18th Century, it is not immediately clear under whose authority. However a 1622 Half-Thaler for Zurich bears a similar reverse legend and evidently prompted D'Annone to associate this issue with Switzerland in his 1806 thesis.

The inscription comes from Mark X: "LASSET DIE KINDLIN ZV MIR KOMEN, VND WERET INEN NICHT, DEN SOLCHER IST DAS REICH GOTTES" - "Let the Children come to me... for such is the Kingdom of God".
