Henry III (1216-1272), Voided Long Cross, Class 3ab, "Piedfort" or 'Double' Penny, Norwich, Willem, crowned bust facing, rev. WILLEM ON NORW, voided long cross, trio of pellets in angles, 2.189g [33.78grns], 11h (cf. C&T pp. 113-14; cf. Allen, "The 'Twopence' of Henry III in the Drabble Sale," in BNJ 24 (1941-1944), pp. 55; cf. Churchill, pp. 24; North –; Spink –), some tiny traces of horn silver, otherwise rich dark 'field' tone, a really good very fine / almost extremely fine, a remarkable and most mysterious striking at least 30 percent over typical specie weight and therefore a putative 'Piedfort' striking, previously only known at Canterbury for this series, of great numismatic interest thus
