The John Chatwin Collection | Harold I 'Harefoot' (1035-1040), 'Fleur-de-Lys' Type, Penny, 1038-1040, York, Ucede, HAR-OLD RECX, bust left diademed and in armour; in front a shield and sceptre, rev. + VCEDEE ON EOFE: voided long cross, limbs united at their bases by a circle enclosing a pellet, in each angle a fleur-de-lys between two pellets, 1.09g [16.82grns], 2h (BEH 225; Dannenberg [1884], 512; SCBI 40 [Stockholm], 1550-1553; Parsons 1106; North 803; BMC VI; Spink 1165), pecked and crimped, otherwise lightly toned and lustrous, of good metal, the centres strictly fine, the peripheries better / almost very fine
