(x) William I (1066-1087), 'Canopy' Type, Penny, 1070-1072, Wilton, Godric, + PILLEMVS REX, crowned bust facing beneath canopy with two columns, rev. +GO[.]RIC ON PILTVNEI, quadrilateral with incurved sides, fleurs on points, around central annulet, 1.24g [19.1grns], 9h (EMC 1200.0576; North 843; BMC III; Spink 1252), some subtle crimping and flatness to peripheries, otherwise lightly toned with wisps of porosity, a pleasingly bold very fine, only one recorded on EMC and none in SCBI, an evidently rare mint-moneyer combination for type
