Wessex, Edward the Elder (899-924), 'Exceptional Issues', North Western Mints, 'Tower' Type, Penny, Wulfsige, + EADVVEARD REX, small cross pattée, rev. Anglo-Saxon burh in the style of a Roman Camp Gate, dividing VV-LF | SI-GE over two lines, 1.70g [26.0grns], 12h (Ruding, Pl. 16, no. 17; G D Lumb, "Edward the Elder Pennies with the Facade of a Building", BNJ 20 (1929-1930), pp. 27-29 this coin referenced; CTCE 324e this coin, cf. Pl. 4, no. 21; North 666; Spink 1083), lightly crimped, nevertheless the Tower and legends uniformly struck, on a neat round flan, very fine / good very fine, extremely rare with only seven examples recorded, this with an exemplary nigh-two century long unbroken pedigree
