The Royal Navy officer's Full Dress sword carried by Captain J. B. Glencross D.S.O., R.N. who spent almost his entire career of some thirty-plus years as an officer in the 'silent service', from its earliest days in the Edwardian era through to the eve of the Second World War

Royal Navy officer's regulation pattern Full Dress sword, lion-head pommel with white fish-skin grip, guard with usual locking mechanism, this engraved 'J. B. Glencross R. N.', 'King's' crown above fouled anchor, blade with usual Royal coat-of-arms, foliate and anchor decoration, by 'Royal Naval Outfitters, 44 Fore St. Devonport', back of blade further marked 'London Made', regulation pattern blue and gold bullion sword knot, correct scabbard with all brass fittings, by same maker, leather a little cracked and dry, 935mm including pommel, blade in unusually good condition for age with little evidence of rust or wear, gilding mostly worn off around guard, sword knot frayed in places, a most attractive attributed example, very fine

Sold together with four complete Royal Navy officer's sword belts, three Undress and one Full Dress, this latter by 'Gieve, Matthews & Seagrove Ltd.', and a leather sword bag, all in fair condition for age, the sword bag and lining in somewhat relic condition.
