Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Lucknow (2nd Captn. W. J. Bradford, A. Cy. 3rd Bn. Madras Art.), good very fine

William James Bradford was born in India 1 April 1828, the son of General Sir John Fowler Bradford, K.C.B. Young Bradford was educated privately.

He served with the Madras Artillery during the Indian Mutiny and was present at the battles of Chanda (19 February), Sultunpore (23 February), Dorehna (2 March), Lucknow (2-16 March), Oosinghur (11 April), Jugdespore (May and June), Dhondeakerah (23 November), Chandah (26 December), Madjodiah (27 December) and Pooranee (31 December 1858).

In 1859 he was appointed Aide-de-Camp to his father and served with him during 'The White Mutiny' whilst stationed at Meerut. He married Emma Chaloner Olive in 1864, being promoted Lieutenant-Colonel in July 1870 and Colonel in July 1875. Bradford died at Kamptee on 10 November 1877.
