Great Britain: Stockton & Darlington Railway, certificate for one share, [1830], #688, attractive vignette at left, black printing on vellum. Originally a horse tramroad incorporated in 1821, to run the 25 miles between the 2 towns with branch lines to collieries and the river Tees. Converted to allow steam locomotives in 1823, finally opened in 1825. The worlds first railway authorised to carry passengers using steam locomotives. This certificate is the first 'type 2' to be seen with the addition of J Macauley" under vignette (see www.scripoworld.com). VF and extremely rare.
