Gwyne Roberts was born on 16 May 1908 and was a quarryman, living at Llanberis upon his joining the Royal Welsh Fusiliers on 5 July 1926. Having been transferred to the 4th Battalion, South Wales Borderers for Home Defence duties from 7 December 1939, he joined the Welch Regiment on 16 April 1942.
