George Alfred Rose was born at Wimbledon in 1894, the son of Francis and Ellen Rose of 53 Kingswood Road, Wimbledon. Working as an Architect prior to enlisting on 3 April 1916 Rose was posted to the 152nd Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery. Entering the war in France on 31 August 1916 he was appointed acting Bombardier on 17 June 1917.
