William John Frederick Golding was born at Hammersmith in 1895 and was a direct entrant into the Royal Flying Corps on 8 May 1914. He served in France from 17 April 1915 and was promoted Flight Sergeant (Electrician) on 1 September 1917 and was listed as Chief Mechanic (Electrician) in the April 1918 Muster Roll.
A total of 15 M.S.M.'s were awarded to members of the Royal Flying Corps for services in Jerusalem, none of the other awards to pre-war members of the Corps.
