Charles James Tweed was born in Chatham, Kent oin 1875, the son of a Chelsea Pensioner, having served with the Royal Marine Light Infantry. Living at St. Giles Cross, Kent in 1881 Tweed worked as a Grocer's assistant prior to enlisting with the Army Service Corps. He is listed on the roll as dying of pneumonia at No 24 Stationary Hospital, Aliwal North, and is buried at Aliwal North Cemetery, Cape Colony.
