Victory Medal 1914-19 (Lieut. S. W. Davis. R.N.), good very fine

Stanley William Davis was born on 4 November 1872 and entered service with the Royal Navy on 15 September 1905. Promoted Sub-Lieutenant on 6 June 1913 Davis was stationed with H.M.S. Leander by the outbreak of the Great War.

Posted to the guardship Dido on 22 June 1916 Davis served there with the rank of Lieutenant for the bulk of the war. Later transferred to H.M.S. President he appears to have been involved in record keeping. A senior officer of his recommended him 'for further employment in General Intelligence work in connection with confidential Books. Davis was promoted Lieutenant-Commander upon his retirement on 15 May 1923.

Returning briefly to service during the Second World War at Newcastle as Naval Liaison Officer Tyne. He served in this role from 25 August 1939 but was forced to retire on 24 July 1940 as a result of ill health; sold together with a copied service record.
